1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using the Smart Home Renovators website (the "Website"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use the Website.
In these Terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean [Legal business or owner name], the operator of Smart Home Renovators. "You" means any visitor, reader or contributor who uses the Website.
2. About this website
Smart Home Renovators is an Australian-focused home improvement blog. We publish articles on renovation, smart home technology, energy efficiency, flooring, outdoor improvements, home decor and related topics, and we accept guest posts that meet our Editorial Policy.
We are a publisher of information. Unless we clearly state otherwise, we are not a builder, licensed tradesperson, contractor or local service provider.
3. Website use
You may use the Website for lawful, personal and non-commercial purposes. When using it, you agree not to:
- use the Website in a way that breaks any applicable law or regulation;
- copy, scrape, harvest or republish our content in bulk, or use automated tools to extract data without our written permission;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Website, its servers, forms or related systems;
- introduce viruses, malicious code or anything else that could damage or disrupt the Website;
- submit spam, false information or misleading content through our forms; or
- use the Website to promote unrelated, unlawful or deceptive products or services.
We may suspend or restrict access to the Website at any time, without notice, where we reasonably believe these Terms have been breached.
4. Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, all content on the Website, including text, graphics, logos, layouts, images and the Smart Home Renovators name, is owned by us or used with permission, and is protected by Australian and international copyright and trade mark laws.
You may view and print pages for your own personal use. You may quote short excerpts with clear credit and a link back to the original page. Any other use, including republishing, reselling, spinning or using our content to train or populate other sites or tools, requires our prior written consent.
Content owned by contributors remains subject to the licence described in section 6.
5. Contributor responsibilities
If you submit a pitch, draft, image or other material to us (a "Submission"), you confirm and agree that:
- the Submission is your original work and has not been published elsewhere, and will not be published elsewhere or submitted to other sites at the same time;
- it is not copied, spun, or generated and passed off as your own without disclosure, and you accept that Submissions may be checked for plagiarism;
- you own, or have permission to use, every image and other asset you supply, and you will provide accurate captions and credits;
- the information is accurate, supported by reliable sources where needed, and relevant to Australian homes and readers;
- any electrical, plumbing, gas or structural content makes clear that licensed professionals are required in Australia;
- the Submission does not defame anyone, breach anyone's rights, or break any law; and
- you have told us about any commercial relationship, affiliate arrangement, payment or free product connected to the Submission.
Our full requirements are set out on the Write for Us page.
6. Guest-post submission rights
You keep ownership of your Submission. By sending it to us, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to publish, host, edit, format, display, archive and promote the Submission (and your name, author bio and approved images) on the Website and our related channels, including social media and newsletters.
Where we publish your article, we agree that it will not be republished by you on any other website, whether before or after publication here, without our written permission.
You may ask us to remove your article at any time. We will consider reasonable requests, but may keep archived or cached copies for a short period and may retain the article where it forms part of an agreed commercial arrangement.
Publishing a guest post does not create an employment, partnership, agency or joint venture relationship between you and us. Unless agreed in writing beforehand, contributors are not paid for guest posts.
7. Editorial rights
All Submissions are reviewed, and publication is never guaranteed. We reserve the right, at our discretion, to:
- accept, decline or ask for changes to any pitch or Submission;
- edit content for accuracy, clarity, length, style, safety and compliance with our Editorial Policy;
- change titles, headings, images, formatting and internal links;
- add, remove, or add "nofollow", "sponsored" or "ugc" attributes to any link; and
- update, unpublish or remove any article, including after publication, if the information becomes inaccurate or out of date, or the content breaks these Terms or our guidelines.
We do not guarantee any particular publication date, search ranking, indexing outcome, backlink value or traffic result from publishing a guest post.
8. Sponsored content and links
We may publish sponsored content, affiliate links or paid partnerships. Where we do, we will clearly identify it so readers can tell it apart from independent editorial content.
We do not accept casino, gambling, adult, crypto, payday loan or other unrelated or low-quality content or links. We do not sell "dofollow" links and do not promise any link attribute. Contributors must not offer or accept payment in exchange for placing links in our content without disclosing it to us first.
9. External links
The Website may link to third-party websites, products, tools and services. We include these for reader convenience only. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, privacy practices or security.
A link does not mean we endorse the third party or any product or service it offers. You access external sites at your own risk and should read their terms and privacy policies.
10. General information only
Important: Content on the Website is general information for educational purposes. It is not professional, engineering, legal, financial or safety advice, and it does not take your personal circumstances into account.
Renovation projects can involve risk. Electrical, gas, plumbing, roofing, structural and other regulated work in Australia must be carried out by appropriately licensed professionals, and many projects require council approval or permits and must comply with the National Construction Code and state or territory rules. Always check requirements with your local council or relevant authority and obtain advice from a qualified professional before starting work.
Cost estimates, product details and specifications may change and may not apply to your home or location. Please read our Disclaimer for more detail.
11. Limitation of liability
The Website and its content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, whether express or implied, and we are not liable for any loss or damage (including indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, property damage or personal injury) arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Website, any article, or any third-party link or product.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy, or any guarantee, warranty or other term or condition, implied or imposed by the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Where our liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our liability is limited, at our option, to resupplying the relevant information or paying the cost of having it resupplied.
12. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify us against any claim, loss, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your Submission, or your misuse of the Website.
13. Privacy
Your use of the Website, including any information you send through our forms or by email, is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what information we collect and how we use it.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Website after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms. Please check this page regularly.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [State or Territory], Australia. You agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of [State or Territory] and the Commonwealth of Australia.
If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest will continue to apply. Our failure to enforce any right is not a waiver of that right.
